Gomag is a solid Romanian platform for launching an online store, with ready-made integrations for payments, couriers, invoicing and eMAG. As the brand grows, the limits of a system based on predefined themes become visible: the design can only be adjusted within the editor, specific features can only be built within the platform’s limits, and expanding into foreign markets requires compromises. GRÉGOIRE, an official Shopify partner since 2019, handles Gomag to Shopify migrations with products, customers and order history transferred, and with 301 redirects for every page indexed in Google. If you are starting a store from scratch, see our Shopify store development service.
Why migrate from Gomag to Shopify?
Design built on your brand identity
The most visible difference between the two platforms is design. On Gomag, the store’s look starts from a limited set of themes and can only be changed within the visual editor, so the result inevitably resembles other stores using the same theme. On Shopify, we build the theme through custom development in Liquid, the platform’s native language, so every page reflects the brand’s visual identity and the value of its products.
Features built for your store
Gomag offers predefined integrations and an API for connecting external systems, but the way the store itself looks and works stays within the platform’s limits. On Shopify, the theme and pages are custom-developed, and through the API and the app ecosystem our developers implement exactly what the store needs: product configurators, subscriptions, loyalty programs, connections to your ERP or warehouse.
Ready for international sales
Shopify Markets lets you manage several markets from the same account, with prices in local currencies, different languages, separate domains and shipping rules for each country. For a brand that sells in Romania today and wants to reach the rest of the European Union, the migration prepares that expansion from the start, without a second platform.

Our Gomag to Shopify migration process
Store and brand identity audit
We analyze the current store: the catalog, category structure, pages indexed in Google, organic traffic and active integrations, including e-Factura (Romania’s national e-invoicing system) and eMAG. At the same time, we check whether the existing design matches the brand identity or whether the migration is the right moment for a correction.
Migration plan and redirect map
We map every data type from Gomag to the Shopify structure: products and variants, categories into collections, attributes and filters into metafields, pages and articles. Current Gomag addresses become Shopify URLs such as /products/ and /collections/, and every indexed URL gets a 301 redirect that passes its authority to the new page.
Creative direction and user experience
Our UI/UX designers rebuild the shopping experience based on the audit: navigation, filters, product page and cart. The checkout is customized within the limits of the chosen Shopify plan. We treat the mobile experience separately, since most orders are placed there, and remove the points where customers drop off today.
Development and data transfer
Our developers build the theme in Liquid, then move the products, images, customers, orders, pages and SEO settings to Shopify. We configure payments, couriers, invoicing with e-Factura submission, eMAG synchronization, tracking pixels and marketing integrations, so the store is fully functional from day one.
Pre-launch testing
We compare the number of products, customers and orders transferred with those in Gomag, check every redirect and test the complete purchase flow on phone, tablet and desktop. The Gomag store stays live throughout this stage.
Launch and monitoring
Before moving the domain, we bring over the orders, new customers and updated stock from the old store, so Shopify starts with up-to-date data. We move the domain, submit the sitemap in Google Search Console and track indexing, organic traffic and conversions in the weeks after launch. Any crawl error or unredirected page is fixed immediately.
What you keep and what you gain
Your data stays, your Google visibility is protected
Moving to Shopify does not mean starting from zero. Products with variants, prices, stock and images, categories, customers, order history, content pages and blog articles are all transferred. SEO titles and descriptions are kept on every page, and old URLs point to the new addresses through 301 redirects, along with the authority built over time.
Security managed by Shopify
Shopify fully manages servers, SSL certificates, security updates and PCI DSS compliance for payment processing. The infrastructure stays stable during high-traffic periods, such as Black Friday or collection launches, with no additional server costs.
Simple administration, no developer needed
Adding products, managing orders, updating stock and creating discounts are done from the Shopify admin or the mobile app, with no technical knowledge. Sales reports are built in, and connections to Meta, Google, TikTok and email marketing platforms are configured natively.

Frequently asked questions
Will I lose my Google rankings if I migrate from Gomag to Shopify?
Rankings are protected through 301 redirects from every indexed URL to the corresponding Shopify page and through the correct transfer of SEO content. Rankings may fluctuate after launch while Google reindexes the store, and the length of this period varies from site to site. We monitor the process in Google Search Console and fix any error immediately.
What data is transferred from Gomag to Shopify?
Products with all variants, prices, stock and images, categories, attributes, customers, order history, content pages and blog articles, plus the SEO titles and descriptions of every page. We extract the data from the exports available in Gomag and prepare it for the Shopify structure before import.
How much does the migration cost?
The cost depends on the number of products and variants, how many indexed URLs need redirects, the integrations (ERP, eMAG, warehouse) and how much custom development the theme requires. After the audit, you receive a fixed quote broken down by stage, together with an estimate of your monthly Shopify costs (subscription and apps) compared with what you pay today.
Will invoices still reach e-Factura if I sell on Shopify?
Yes. Invoices are issued through the invoicing service’s app, such as SmartBill, which automatically submits them to the ANAF SPV, the Romanian tax authority’s platform. We configure and test the submission before launch.
Can I keep selling on eMAG Marketplace?
Yes, through integration apps that synchronize products, stock and orders between Shopify and eMAG. During the audit, we check which synchronizations you currently use in Gomag and choose the right equivalent.
Why not use an automated migration tool?
An automated tool moves the data: products, customers, orders. A complete migration also requires a redirect map for every indexed URL, data cleanup before import, the theme, the Romanian integrations and post-launch checks. Sales and Google traffic depend on these stages.
Do my customers need to create a new account?
No. Customer accounts and order history are transferred. The only thing that cannot be moved is passwords, which each platform encrypts differently. On Shopify, customers sign in with a code sent by email, so they do not need a new password.
Does the Gomag store keep working during the migration?
Yes. We build and test the Shopify store in parallel, on a temporary domain, while the current store keeps receiving orders. The domain is moved at the end, during a low-traffic window, with no interruption for customers.
How long does a Gomag to Shopify migration take?
For a catalog of up to a few hundred products and standard features, 4 to 8 weeks from approval of the visual direction. Large catalogs, ERP integrations or custom-developed features can extend the timeline, which we set after the audit.
Can I keep my current couriers and invoicing service?
Yes. The couriers and invoicing services commonly used in Romania, such as Sameday, FAN Courier or SmartBill, have Shopify integrations. During the audit, we check every active integration in Gomag and configure its equivalent before launch.
Will the store design stay the same?
It depends on what the audit shows. If the current store reflects the brand identity correctly, we keep the visual direction and build it better on Shopify. If not, we propose a new creative direction, which you approve before development.
Do you offer support after the migration?
Yes. After launch, we provide technical support for updates, new integrations and ongoing maintenance. We can also continue with SEO, social media management, Meta Ads, TikTok Ads and Google Ads campaigns, email marketing, product photography and photo/video content production, all coordinated in-house by the same team.
