WooCommerce turns a WordPress site into an online store, and for a small catalog it works well. As the store grows, so does the number of plugins: payments, shipping, invoicing, filters, SEO, caching, security. Each one has its own update cycle, and a single incompatible update can block the checkout in the middle of a campaign. GRÉGOIRE, an official Shopify partner since 2019, handles WooCommerce to Shopify migrations that keep your products, customers, orders and blog articles, with 301 redirects for every page indexed in Google. For a new store, see our Shopify store development service.
Why migrate from WooCommerce to Shopify?
No conflicts between plugins
The biggest difference between the two platforms is architecture. A WooCommerce store runs on three layers that update separately: WordPress, WooCommerce and the installed plugins. When one of them changes something, the others can stop working properly, and the problem usually shows up right in front of customers. On Shopify, the platform and its core features are developed and tested together, by the same team.
Security without effort on your part
Outdated WordPress plugins are one of the most common attack routes against websites. On WooCommerce, updates, backups, the firewall and the SSL certificate remain your responsibility or your developer’s. Shopify fully manages infrastructure security and PCI DSS compliance for payments, with no additional plugins.
Performance without managing a server
A WooCommerce store’s speed depends on hosting, caching plugins and how many extensions are active, because every new plugin adds code loaded on every page. Shopify serves the store through its own global server network, stable during high-traffic periods, with no server configuration. Final speed depends on the theme, images and apps, which is why we build the theme with optimized code and test performance before launch.

Our WooCommerce to Shopify migration process
Store and brand identity audit
We list the active plugins, the catalog, category structure, blog articles, indexed pages and organic traffic. We analyze the brand identity and check whether the current WordPress theme reflects it correctly or whether the store needs a new visual direction.
Data and URL mapping
WooCommerce variable products become products with variants in Shopify, categories become collections, and attributes move into options and metafields. Addresses such as /product/ and /product-category/ receive 301 redirects to the Shopify structure, /products/ and /collections/, and blog articles to /blogs/.
Creative direction and UX
Our UI/UX designers rebuild the shopping experience on Shopify: navigation, filters, product page and cart. The checkout is customized within the limits of the chosen Shopify plan. We start from the real data of the current store, to know where customers drop off and what needs fixing, with priority on mobile.
Development and data transfer
Our developers build the theme in Liquid, then move the products, images, customers, orders, pages, blog articles and SEO settings from Yoast or Rank Math to Shopify. Features that depended on plugins in WooCommerce are rebuilt in Shopify, together with payments, couriers and invoicing with e-Factura submission (Romania’s national e-invoicing system).
Pre-launch testing
We compare the transferred data with the WooCommerce data, check every redirect and test an order from the first page to confirmation on phone, tablet and desktop. The WooCommerce store stays live until launch day.
Launch and monitoring
Before moving the domain, we bring over the orders, new customers and updated stock from the old store, so Shopify starts with up-to-date data. We move the domain, submit the sitemap in Google Search Console and track indexing, organic traffic and conversions after launch. Once the store is stable, the WordPress hosting and plugin licenses can be cancelled.
What you keep and what you gain
Your data and blog stay, your visibility is protected
No content is lost when moving to Shopify. Products with variants, prices, stock and images, categories, customers, order history, pages and blog articles are all transferred. SEO titles and descriptions set in Yoast or Rank Math are kept, and 301 redirects pass the authority of each old URL to its new Shopify address.
Infrastructure included in the subscription
A WooCommerce store pays separately for hosting, premium plugin licenses and maintenance hours. On Shopify, hosting, platform security and updates are included in the subscription. Additional apps are chosen according to the store’s needs, and their cost is known from the start.
Simple administration
Orders, products, stock and discounts are managed from a single admin built exclusively for commerce, or from the mobile app. You no longer go through the WordPress menus and those of every plugin, and integrations with Meta, Google, TikTok and email marketing are configured natively.

Frequently asked questions
Will I lose my Google rankings if I migrate from WooCommerce to Shopify?
Rankings are protected through correct 301 redirects for every indexed URL and the transfer of metadata. Shopify uses a fixed URL structure, so product, category and article addresses change, and the redirect map is the critical step. Rankings may fluctuate after launch while Google reindexes the store, and we track the process in Google Search Console.
What data is transferred from WooCommerce to Shopify?
Simple and variable products with prices, stock and images, categories, attributes, customers with their addresses, order history, pages, blog articles and SEO settings. The data is extracted from the WordPress database, cleaned and adapted to the Shopify structure before import.
What happens to my WordPress blog?
Articles are transferred to the Shopify blog with their text, images, SEO titles and descriptions, and each article receives a 301 redirect from its old address. Shopify’s blog is simpler than WordPress, but sufficient for an online store’s editorial content. For publications with a large volume of content, we discuss the right solution during the audit.
How much does the migration cost?
The cost depends on the number of products and variants, how many plugins need replacing, the size of the blog and how many indexed URLs need redirects. After the audit, you receive a fixed quote broken down by stage, together with an estimate of your monthly Shopify costs compared with the hosting, licenses and maintenance you pay for today.
Why not use an automated migration tool?
An automated tool moves the data: products, customers, orders. It does not replace the functions of your plugins, does not create the redirect map for products, categories and articles, and does not check indexing after launch. Sales and Google traffic depend on these stages.
Do my customers need to create a new account?
No. Accounts and order history are transferred. Passwords cannot be moved, because WordPress and Shopify encrypt them differently. On Shopify, customers sign in with a code received by email, so they do not need a new password.
Can I keep the features my plugins provide today?
Yes, in the vast majority of cases. During the audit, we list every active plugin and determine how its function is covered on Shopify: natively, through custom development in the theme or through the right integration. Some functions that require separate plugins on WooCommerce, such as abandoned cart emails, are built directly into Shopify.
How long does a WooCommerce to Shopify migration take?
For a catalog of up to a few hundred products and standard features, 4 to 8 weeks from approval of the visual direction. Stores with many custom plugins, an extensive blog or large catalogs need a longer timeline, set after the audit.
Can I keep my couriers and invoicing service?
Yes. The couriers and invoicing services commonly used in Romania, such as Sameday, FAN Courier or SmartBill, have Shopify integrations, including for submitting invoices to e-Factura. We configure each integration and test it with real orders before launch.
Do you offer support after the migration?
Yes. After launch, we provide technical support for updates, new integrations and ongoing maintenance. We can also continue with SEO, social media management, Meta Ads, TikTok Ads and Google Ads campaigns, email marketing, product photography and photo/video content production, coordinated in-house to grow the store across all channels.
